The area of Michigan that is now Oakland County was once home to a dense forest that was full of hardwood trees, such as Oaks and Hickory in the areas that had poor soil. The wetter areas that had richer soils, had more Maple trees and Beech trees, among others. There are many trees over a hundred years old that are a value to our land and environment. Most cities do not require permits to remove trees on private properties, unless it is a protected tree or a landmark tree. If there is a dead tree on city property, you can contact the city and they will give you the proper information on what will be done. You are not required to hire a private contractor.
